Course syllabi and outlines serve as “road maps” for explicit and well-planned instruction and learning. Additionally, both represent the equivalent of a contractual agreement between the course instructor, the organizational trainer, and the student/trainee. Well formulated course syllabi and outlines offer students and instructors/trainers detail regarding the structural and functional integrity of a course including its purpose, learning expectations, goal statements, content emphases, course schedules and time allocations, along with other important considerations including course continuity, assignments, activities, course assessments and other policy statements.
