Introduction: Creative and Technical Writing

Skills related to creative and technical writing are among the most overlooked and perhaps underdeveloped skills that higher education faculty lack. While one might expect higher education faculty to excel in these important skill areas and vital forms of professional communication, they are not necessarily valued or acquired by those who are primarily responsible for instruction and facilitation of student learning.

This topic will examine and discuss basic types of writing including forms referred to as technical, creative, expressive, expository and persuasive. Various approaches and strategies will be delineated that contribute to the development and application of those fundamental purposes and development most associated with creative and technical writing in the professions.
